I’m not cool because I don’t know Naruto stuff

I posted a while back about Naruto and how it is my daughters favorite subject. She seems to have moved onto other things, but she still uses names that I have never heard of before. That post gets more hits than any I have done in a long time.

I have always prided myself on being one of those “cool moms” the ones that stay with the times… They listen to popular artists (yes, I know who Will I Am is and I actually love his music), and watch the coolest TV shows (like Flavor of Love). I have sat through High School Musical and I have HSM 2 recorded, just trying to get my stomach strong enough to sit through it. I know that Hannah Montana is really Billy Ray Cyrus’s daughter in Real Life, and I blog about American Idol. I even have sat through many episodes of Suite Life of Zach and Cody to bond with my middle daughter. For my son’s sake I watch many a Redskins game to have some bonding moments with him.

Of all the things I have done to stay up on the times, this Anime kick has kicked my butt. Of all the things my 12 yr old could have gotten interested in, this is one that I have never had an intrest in and no matter how hard I try, I can not find a single thing appealing enough to hold my attention to it. One thing that I have enjoyed is how she expresses her love of anime. She has started an Art site that I would encourage all you Naruto and Anime fans to go to. I was surprised to come across it a few nights ago and amazed at how good her art really is. If anyone can help me find some way to get interested in these shows, or can tell me what she is talking about… I would greatly appreciate it.

  1. LOL Be glad they’re not into yugioh & pokemon and expect you to know what their attacks are, or what they evolve into, or what’s a better defense against them or or or. Oy!

Of course, it’s worse with the whole “let’s pretend ” stuff that my d daughter throws at me. WHy can’t they be bookworms? WHY???

  2. LoL - you think flavor of love is kewl *sNork*

  3. While my girls do watch the whole Naruto thing I have managed to avoid needing to learn about it.

However I have provided an ever growing pile of Manga art books to encourage my elder especially to draw more.

BTW your daughter’s art is really very good. She should definately keep at it!!!

  4. i have thusfar avoided having to learn much just by constantly dipping into the foetid pool that is my memory and pulling out odd little bits here and there.

this past summer we were all over at my mother’s house and my nephew (second cousin, but i’ve been elevated to uncle status due to the difference in our ages) marched up to the door and, when i opened it, said in a loud clear voice, konichiwa, clapping his hands together, fingers up (prayer style) and bowing at the waist

i replied konichiwa, seth san, followed by a slight inclination of my head

that little boy spent the rest of the day telling the story to anyone who would listen.

so while actual knowledge might be preferable, i will continue to fake it as long as i can get away with it

  5. @ Dawn… LOL I remember the days of my younger brothers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles… what were thier names again?

@ Stephen… I never said I thought it was cool… lol It is entertaining to see all those women lining up for THAT guy

@ Mama Kelly, Thank you for the compliment I wll pass it along

  6. perhaps you can try reading the manga instead of watching the anime coz the latter takes up some time. skimming through the manga just takes a few minutes really. i recommend http://groups.msn.com/NarutoMangaReturns to read online versions of the manga. try starting from the very first chapter, trust me, it is really addictive ^^

  7. I dont watch it. I just draw it. i dont understand it either.

  8. I saw your daughter’s drawings. OMG they were good! My fav was when Sasuke went to the carnival!!!
