Today’s Photo Friday entry is entitled: Joy! © Jan Marshall

Joy…. The word itself has a different meaning for me than it may for you…. Joy…. I first remember hearing this word when I was 4, and my mother was finally pregnant… Joy.…she had tried for years to have a baby….Joy…. finally she was pregnant and figuring out names…. Joy….

My sister was born… and her name is Lisa Joy

As a baby, Lisa didn’t bring me much joy. She just cried and pooped. As a child she didn’t bring me much joy, she just followed me around when I wanted her gone… the only joy I got was when I was mean and made her do dumb things like kiss dog poop. That doesn’t give me joy anymore… just guilt. As a teenager she didn’t give me joy, I hated her because I felt like she was my mom’s favorite, and she did things like squirt mustard on me right before I went out on a date… When I was first married she didn’t bring me much joy because she lived 2000 miles away.

It wasn’t until we were both adults that I took the time to get to know my sister. Even then I can’t say she brought me much joy… but we were friends, and that was important.

That all changed the day she called me and told me she was pregnant. I have never felt so much amazing joy coarse through my body. You see, Lisa was the kid who dressed up her kitty and treated it like a baby. Her main goal in life was to be a mother. She tried for 7 years unsuccessfully to have a baby.

The day she called me and told me she was pregnant, I cried, I laughed, and I rejoiced with her. All the years of struggle melted away and I had nothing left but joy for her…she really lived up to her name.

So the photo I chose is a photo of my sister, Lisa Joy. I took this photo the morning we went to the hospital for her to give birth to my first niece, Bindi. She is beautiful, and the JOY is written all over her face. I love you Lisa, and I love the mother you are to my nephew and niece!

One more, this one is her getting wheeled into surgery for her C-Section:
